A rich, buttery Southern classic, this Kentucky Butter Cake is soaked in a luscious vanilla glaze that makes it moist, flavorful, and simply irresistible. Perfect for any occasion, this old-fashioned dessert gets even better when it rests overnight.

Ingredients

  • Cake:
1 cup butter, cubed at room temperature
    2 cups granulated sugar
    4 large eggs
    1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    3 cups all-purpose flour
    1 teaspoon kosher salt
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    ½ teaspoon baking soda
    1 cup buttermilk
  • Butter Glaze:
    ⅓ cup butter
    ¾ cup granulated sugar
    2 tablespoons water
    2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch bundt pan.
  2. Combine all cake ingredients in a large bowl; mix on low for 30 seconds, then medium for 3 minutes.
  3. Pour into pan and bake 65–75 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. For the glaze, melt butter, sugar, water, and vanilla in a saucepan over medium-low heat until sugar dissolves. Do not boil.
  5. Poke holes in the warm cake and pour glaze over while still in the pan.
  6. Cool completely before inverting. For best flavor, let sit overnight.
